Apostle To My Home

Releasing the Apostolic Anointing In My Home
27 Aug 2008

Thousands of mighty men of God that are in ministry and that are married, are raising up apostolic teams, traveling around the globe, setting up mighty churches and winning thousands to the Lord. Truly this is the Great Commission of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. But some have forgotten their first ministry and their responsibility.

It seems that in our society there is an obsession with fulfilling purpose and destiny at any cost. Many preachers have become obsessed with growing bigger churches and fulfilling their global responsibility. We want to be the next big name on the roster. This obsession is costing many men of God their sanity and their families. The pressure associated with this obsession is causing many men of God to do whatever it takes to appear prosperous even if it means forsaking their wives and children.

I made this mistake early on in ministry. I was the first minister to get to church. I was the children's church pastor. I was the intercessory prayer leader. My pastor could totally depend on me to be there. Although this sounds great and yes should be practiced by those that call themselves ministers, my personal life was a mess. At church I was "the man". But at home, that was a totally different story.

Here I was a minister that was putting everyone else in their place. I was calling out giftings, helping other marriages, prophesying and encouraging people. But I couldn't bring direction to my own home. I was an Apostle to everyone else, but not to my own home.

So, how does one become an Apostle of his home?

  1. Establish a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Please don't get this twisted with doing a lot of ministerial duties. This is intimate time between you and God. Ministerial duties without intimate fellowship with God equals burnout.

  2. Take time to define your role as a husband and a father according to scriptures. The world tells us what a husband and a father should look like. This is not God's perspective nor his definition of a Godly husband and father. Ephesians 5: 25-29, Genesis 18:19

  3. Make a conscious decision to obey the Word of God. The bible is clear on what our responsibilites and priorities should be as husbands and fathers.

  4. Pray and ask God to connect you to a Spiritual Father. The scripture says in Proverbs 20:18 that every purpose is established by counsel; and with good advice make war.

Applying these principles have caused me to be the Apostle of my home. Yes, I have a ministry, I travel and preach the Gospel winning souls to the Lord. But I do this with the full support of my wife and kids. This is a  result of prioritizing my life. When my priorities are aligned with God's word then the result will always be maximization and increase in any area.  My family does not have to worry if I have their best interest at hand. They know I do. And as a husband and minister this brings not only great joy to my heart but great fulfillment as the Apostle of my home.
